Our History
The Bedford Police Benevolent Association has proudly supported the officers of the Bedford Police Department and the Bedford community for more than six decades.
Public records show the Association was already active in the community by 1961, when the Bedford PBA donated a 50-star American flag to the Bedford Hills Lions Club. In the years that followed, the organization continued to grow alongside the Police Department, becoming both a strong advocate for Bedford police officers and a lasting community presence.
In September 1967, the Town of Bedford formally recognized the Bedford Police Benevolent Association as the official representative for Bedford police officers. Since then, the PBA has played an important role in supporting officers through collective bargaining, workplace protections, officer wellness initiatives, and professional development.
Over the decades, the Bedford PBA has remained deeply connected to the community it serves. Historical records and local archives document the Association’s involvement in youth programs, charitable fundraising, scholarship support, and public safety initiatives dating back to the 1970s and continuing through today.
The Association has proudly supported organizations and causes throughout the region, including local school scholarships, youth outreach programs, holiday food and coat drives, Toys for Tots, Tunnel to Towers, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Blue Path Service Dogs, and many other charitable initiatives benefiting Bedford families and first responders.
As the Bedford Police Department evolved over the years, so did the PBA. From early patrol-focused representation to today’s modern police organization, the Association has remained committed to protecting the interests of Bedford police officers while strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the community.
Today, the Bedford PBA continues that tradition through community engagement, fundraising, charitable giving, officer support, and public service. Whether sponsoring local events, supporting youth programs, assisting officers and their families, or partnering with other emergency service organizations, the mission remains the same: to support the officers who serve the Town of Bedford while giving back to the community we proudly protect.
